Job Description

Raymour and Flanigan is looking for a part time Set Builder to work in their state of the art furniture photography studio. We are seeking a highly motivated self-starting individual. Main responsibilities will include staging furniture for the photography team, pulling the furniture from sets and placing it into the studio warehouse, painting entire bays and building sets for the photography team. Candidates will need to identify furniture and accessories on set. Basic carpentry skills are necessary.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Concept, create, and craft sets to be used for TV, photography and On-line.
  • Be able to use power tools and well versed in safety procedures.
  • Must be experienced carpenter familiar with building and safety standards.
  • Sketch out set plans, using hand-rendering or computer software.
  • Understand projects to get an idea of what set will entail.
  • Find best price and order materials for production of set.
  • Oversee building of set, working alongside studio associates.
  • Research architectural styles and previous sets for inspiration.
  • Set up furniture, wall coverings, floor coverings, large props and window treatments to be used in set.
  • Lift, lower, push and pull all sizes of furniture up to and in excess of 100 lbs.
  • Make changes to set as necessary.
  • Provide estimations on how much time and cost it will take to produce a set.
  • Help team adhere to budget.
  • Analyze woodshop to assure it is held to a high standard of organization and safety.
  • Must be able to install, mud and finish drywall.
  • Perform additional functions that may be assigned at the discretion of management.

Other responsibilities include unloading and opening furniture, assembling and tagging furniture properly, and keeping the warehouse furniture organized. Communication is very important and will require the Set Builder to prioritize their time efficiently. Any candidate should be a self-starter who can manage their time well and multi-task. Attention to detail, moderate art skills and quality craftsmanship are required for painting and building sets.
