Job Description

The R&F E-Commerce Buyer should be motivated by growth in a dynamic environment focused on our customers. They must have excellent verbal & written communication, draw metric-based conclusions from data, and partner with operations/inventory management, product content and marketing to achieve their goals. Proven analytical, leadership, project management, presentation, and organizational skills are required to excel managing online categories that require strategic and tactical work. We will move fast and take risks, but remember confidence is key.

Core responsibilities are as follows:

  • Business owner for the category(s), possessing a complete understanding (inclusive of the strategic context) of internal and external variables that impact your business. This entails monitoring, understanding and reporting on the business (bi-weekly, monthly, quarterly updates), along with responsibility for driving projects and promotions to achieve business objectives.
  • Build strong relationships with existing vendors and execute negotiations to secure best pricing, promotional support, quality product and product development/insights
  • Analyze data to strategize profit growth opportunities for the category and for specific vendor partners
  • Have a complete understanding of the customer needs, both existing and potential. Leverage that knowledge to advocate for and drive delivery of site features that provide R&F customers with an unparalleled shopping experience.
  • Develops and implements action plans based on deep-dive analysis of assortment metrics
  • Identify sales, merchandising, and operational opportunities for category + subcategory and collaborate with internal teams to drive change (Operations (e-comm), Product Content, Finance, Sales/Customer Service, Marketing (creative/promotions, etc.))
  • Have a thorough understanding of the industry, seasonality and business trends/events (promotional cadence) and continually monitor industry developments
  • Aggregates and reports out on industry trends where applicable
  • Be customer obsessed, that's our end goal, to satisfy our customer
  • Identifies opportunities to differentiate our customer experience from the competition
  • Sets and articulates expectations around leadership behavior for team; models behavior that exemplifies R&F's leadership standards
  • Effectively coaches and gives feedback to direct reports (assistant buyer/merchant assistant) to help develop talent and support career development

Requirements:

  • 5+ years out of undergrad and has relevant work or business management experience (experience in e-commerce and/or within the home space preferred)
  • A strong interest in building a career in buying and/or supplier relationship management
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal), eager to build relationships internally and with new business partners
  • Ability to communicate and feel comfortable speaking directly with C-suite level suppliers from large companies
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage and prioritize multiple projects at once; you don't miss the details
  • Strong business acumen and ability to learn retail math basics
  • Analytical thinker who is solution oriented, leveraging data
  • A self-starter "hit the ground running"
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and mindset
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Excel and Outlook
